Positivity gives us hope.

Even in the hardest of times, a positive attitude from someone ignites a ray of hope. You would have heard, ‘Positive attracts positive’. When your vibrations are positive, your experiences are healthy and in turn, you attract positive energies.

When a person seeks coaching, they are looking to unlock their potential and maximise performance.

If asked, ‘What’s the most significant memory of your childhood?’You might tell about the award you received or your first win in athletics. Going down the memory lane stir such emotions and coaches pick up from there. Coaches derive from such memories and help people shape their lives.

Coaches play a very influential role in a person’s life. As coaches, you can’t superimpose your negative experiences and mindset on your clients. You are trained to be a safe repository for your clients. After listening to them, your questions challenging the clients limiting beliefs must be motivating. People respond better to positive interactions. A disengaged or angry coach, can’t be mentally present for their team. Whereas a positive coach can inspire and motivate the team members to push through. A positive coach can help clients get out of the shell.

Positive coaching mindset and positive coaching habits are key to effective coaching.

As a coach, you must be self- aware of you.

A very interesting statement about values is made by Mark Manson in his book ‘The Subtle Art of Not Giving a F*ck’. He discusses that in our self-awareness, we all have “personal blindspots.” He speaks about an onion of self-awareness that we have many layers of. The first layer is the awareness of our thoughts, and the second layer is the willingness to inquire why we experience those emotions, and our personal beliefs are the third layer.

POSITIVE COACHING MINDSET AND HABITS

Intuition and self-awareness is the magic potion for a positive coaching mindset. To have a positive coaching approach, you must first have self- knowledge. You must:

  1. Know your thoughts

Bad things happen to everyone. But it’s better to show up each time. Your mind has the power to take control of you with negativity or positivity. You can be the conductor of your thoughts. You can enhance your coaching game by understanding, controlling and changing your thoughts.

  1. Know your purpose

On a scale of 1 to10, how fulfilled are you with your life?

Indeed, a thought-provoking question!

As a coach, ask yourself this question. Fulfilment is directly proportional to the purpose. Before working on clients and helping them push through, you must be open-minded. As a coach, you must be aware of your surroundings and they will give you the purpose. Your purpose will itself come to you, without finding it. You just have to be open, aware and focus on your surroundings. When you are aware of your surroundings, purpose follows you through.

  1. Know your values

As a coach, to understand your clients’ values, you must be aware of your values. When a client comes to a coach stuck somewhere. Misaligned with their values, stuck in an emotional turmoil and not self-aware. A coach can help them look at their blind spots, by questioning them after understanding their situation and values. A coach working with a value-system, helps clients motivate and uncover resistances.

  1. Know your emotions

Before understanding your client’s emotions, as a coach, you must be willing to work on your own. Being aware of the surroundings and understanding what makes you dull or angry or happy. Are they supposed to make you that way? Is it justified to feel a certain way? Asking questions and having a toolkit of solutions to work upon your emotional self as a coach is an answer.

A self-aware coach explains expectations, asks questions, measures results diligently and appreciates clients and teammates. As an inspiring coach, a positive coaching formula helps in conquering results.
